Discover the rugged beauty, unspoiled cultures, and deep spirituality of these ancient mountaintop countries. In Kathmandu, tour Durbar Square, a complex of palaces, courtyards, and temples that is also home to the living Goddess Kumari. Experience a chartered "flightseeing" tour of the Himalayas (weather permitting), accompanied by a seasoned sherpa. Then fly to Thimphu, capital of Bhutan, to explore traditional art and medicine, and dine at the home of a revered local family. Visit Punakha, winter home of the country's chief abbot, and witness a special ceremony in the ancient capital of Paro. Serious hikers may climb to the Tiger's Nest, the venerated pilgrimage site. Optional postlude in Delhi and Agra, which includes a sunset visit to the Taj Mahal.
