January 2008: The Multicultural Advisory Committee (pictured) celebrated the Initiative's tenth anniversary at the Multicultural Winter Benefit: An Evening of Many Cultures.

October 2007: Artist Faith Ringgold held a quilt-making workshop for New York City students to celebrate the opening of the New Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education.

September 2007: A private breakfast was held to welcome new Multicultural Advisory Committee member Harriette Cole (left), creative director of EBONY magazine. Supermodel Alek Wek attended and signed copies of her new book.

July 2007: The Initiative held a private viewing of the Asian Art Galleries, followed by a reception welcoming new Initiative members. A musician performed traditional Chinese music on a guzheng.

May 2007: Christopher S. Lightfoot, Associate Curator for Greek and Roman Art, gave a tour of Roman Art at the Initiative's event celebrating the opening of the New Greek and Roman Galleries.

April 2007: Guests enjoyed a reception in the Petrie Court following a viewing of the special exhibition "Barcelona and Modernity: Dali to Gaudi".

March 2007: New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn spoke at the Initiative's Women's History Month event, which celebrated women in art. Contemporary artist Faith Ringgold—who has several works of art in the Met's collection—was also in attendance.

February 2007: Musicologist Jose Obando taught families from Jack & Jill of America about the Afro-Caribbean roots of salsa during "Art, Ideas, and the History of Inclusion: Celebrating Black History Month".

February 2007: The imaginative singer-songwriter Richie Havens—who emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1960s—presented a concert in honor of Black History Month.

November 2006: Multicultural Advisory Committee member Shirley Rodriguez-Remeneski (left) and friends enjoyed a reception following the viewing of the special exhibition "Americans in Paris: 1860–1900". The exhibition included more than one hundred oil paintings by thirty-seven American artists, including Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859–1937), the first African American artist to achieve international acclaim.

November 2006: Thirty K–12 educators participated in "Merengue! Visual Rhythms: Dominican Art and Musical Instruments," a full-day teacher workshop made possible through a collaboration with El Museo del Barrio.
