The Multicultural Audience Development Initiative

Message from Donna Williams, Chief Audience Development Officer
  Back to main page
Ten years ago, the Metropolitan Museum's senior staff met with eight representatives from prominent African-American organizations in order to discuss how the Museum could better serve the African-American community. This meeting led to the creation of the Multicultural Audience Development Initiative.

Now in its tenth year, the Initiative has grown into a Museum-wide effort that serves all of the local communities as well as visitors from all over the globe. It has expanded to include two new initiatives—the Mentoring Program for College Juniors and the College Group at the Met—both created to reach out to college-age audiences. Our advisory committee has also grown to include thirty-five leaders from foremost organizations and cultural institutions.

Our commitment to fostering and maintaining relationships with traditionally underserved communities remains steadfast. We are proud to celebrate a decade of outreach and continued dedication to reflecting the interests and cultural histories of our visitors.

Donna Williams
Chief Audience Development Officer
