Kerry James Marshall—A Creative Convening

Compelling voices consider the role of innovation, social justice, and the imagination in art history, performance, and other disciplines. Noted thought leaders and creative practitioners gather for a daylong exploration of radical creativity inspired by the ideas, practice, and content in the work of Chicago-based visual artist Kerry James Marshall.

Morning session participants include: Kerry James Marshall, artist; Joe Hall, President and Founder, Ghetto Film School; Helen Molesworth, Chief Curator, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and co-curator, Kerry James Marshall: MastryAlondra Nelson, interdisciplinary social scientist and Columbia Dean of Social Science; Toshi Reagon, singer and songwriter; Michael N. Shadlen, Professor of Neuroscience, Columbia University.

Afternoon session participants include: Rashida Bumbray, choreographer; Kimberly Bryant, Founder, Black Girls Code; Michelle Carter, 2016 Olympic Shot Put gold medalist; Huey Copeland, Associate Professor of Art History, Northwestern; Fred Eversley, artist; Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator, The Studio Museum in Harlem; Mario Gooden, Huff + Gooden Architects; Arthur Jafa, director and cinematographer; Monique W. Morris, author and social justice scholar; Robert O'Meally, Zora Neale Hurston Professor of English and Comparative Literature, Columbia University; Greg Tate, writer and musician; Hank Thomas, physicist; Imani Uzuri, vocalist and composer, and Ian Alteveer, Curator, Department of Modern and Contemporary Art, The Met, and co-curator of Kerry James Marshall: Mastry.
