This tour introduces visitors to the rich tradition of American art, from its mid-seventeenth-century colonial beginnings to the early twentieth-century panoply of subjects and styles. This outstanding collection of portraits, landscapes, and narrative scenes is presented in The American Wing's newly renovated galleries. Selections include paintings and sculpture by such major artists as John Singleton Copley, Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins, John Singer Sargent, James McNeill Whistler, Mary Cassatt, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and Frederic Remington.
