Arts of Ancient Greece and Rome

This tour of the Greek and Roman Art galleries provides an introduction to five thousand years of art from the early Cycladic period in the fifth millennium b.c. to the time of Constantine in the fourth century a.d. Geographically, the objects come from every major part of the Greek and Roman world and represent every major artistic medium. The Roman Art galleries include the cubiculum from the Villa at Boscoreale and the black bedroom from Boscotrecase. Together with the Roman wall paintings, they represent a collection unrivaled outside of Italy. The mezzanine contains the Etruscan collection with the reassembled Etruscan chariot as well as a new study area with objects from the entire cultural and chronological span of the department's exceptional collection.
