Central to the Kotah tradition was the hunt, and, as a result, artists from this court took a keen interest in representing animals in a landscape. Unusually, the human predator has been eliminated from this large-scale, ambitious composition; instead the focus is on a pack of tigers stalking and attacking their prey. The exceptional scale of this work suggests that it was a preparatory study for a mural painting.
