Program information

Collector Wheelock Whitney discusses interest in art collecting, his acquisition history, and his travels. Whitney focused on collecting French landscape paintings at a time when few others were, which allowed him to build a unique group of artworks.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition The Path of Nature: French Paintings from the Wheelock Whitney Collection, 1785–1850, on view January 22–April 21, 2013.

    The nuns in this painting wear the habit of the Poor Clares of the Franciscan order.

    A related work by Magnasco, formerly in the collection of conte Giacomo Carrara, Bergamo, is now in the Hessisches Landesmuseum, Darmstadt.
