Later to become a writer, painter, and world traveler, Skolle was a roommate of Walker Evans in the late 1920s. This carefully mounted drugstore print, Skolle's gift to Evans, documents the two men's shared fascination with the ever-shifting still-life presented by New York's shop-fronts: a subtly energetic microcosm of the city's restless appetites.
Inscription: Signed and inscribed in ink on mount, recto C: "Skolle 28"; stamped in ink by lab, verso BLC: "31 [sideways]"
