This page comes from the same album as 2005.100.408a-d. This album page was laid out with particular care. The photographs here offer four painted variations of the same dress, worn by the Countess in her portrait as "Elvira." The Countess has her hair painted red-gold, a color made fashionable in 1863-4 by Cora Pearl, the English courtesan then at the height of her fame. The Countess liked to change the color of her hair; she sometimes appeared as a brunette, sometimes a blonde. [PA; "La Divine Comtesse", p. 178]
