The theme of the somnolent Cupid continued to reverberate in arts of the Italian Renaissance, including bronze plaquettes—small reliefs that sometimes compounded personal meanings. Here, the love god has pushed up his tunic to expose himself. His weapons and torch are at the ready but appear as if carved in relief on the altarlike structure beside him.
