The Lincoln tintype in this campaign medal is a reversed copy of a portrait print (Ostendorf O-92) made on February 9, 1864 by Thomas LeMere, an operator for Mathew B. Brady in his Washington, D.C. studio. The Johnson tintype is a copy of a portrait by an unknown maker. The unknown maker of the medal likely produced the object on a mass scale for the Republican Party to be given away or sold at their headquarters throughout the United States.
Inscription: Printed in photograph, obverse: "A. LINCOLN."; reverse: "A. JOHNSON."; stamped around edge of frame, obverse: "FOR PRESIDENT 1864"; reverse: "FOR VICE PRESIDENT 1864"; loop at top of frame for hanging.
