  • Description

The sense of openness in the design of this dish, as well as the interest in depth—seen, for example, in the twisting of the leaves into the background and the varied positions of the wings of the two birds—typify lacquers produced in the second half of the fourteenth century, an important period for Chinese carved lacquers.
