Excavated in 1900 adjacent to the Throne at Knossos.As early as 1900 Evans noted that the background included water plants and palm trees but the latter were left out of this restoration by E. Gillieron, pere. The palm trees were later included in a watercolor frontispiece by E. Gillieron, fils to the last volume of the Palace of Minos at Knossos. The flanking of the throne at Knossos by heraldic griffins remains one of the most powerful images from Late Bronze Age Greece.The original is in the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion, Crete
