Although photomontage and the photogram were generally used separately, Tabard saw that the idea of montage--the juxtaposition of previously existing images on a single plane--might include photograms. This understanding led him to layer negatives and positives made with a camera together with photograms, to produce seamless photocollages that make marvelous confusion of light and dark and of two and three dimensions.
