Follow the Queen

Frank Majore American

Not on view

Majore’s densely layered photographs of the 1980s cunningly evoke the color-saturated world of glossy magazines and consumer advertising. Rather than using scissors and paste, Majore devised an elaborate process involving studio setups, slide projections, and multiple exposures to combine images inside the camera. Follow the Queen, the sum of a dozen separate exposures on a single sheet of color film, mimics the sultry allure of advertisements for luxury goods, making the point that consumer desires are as malleable as photographic images themselves.
