This artwork is part of Search for the Unicorn: An Exhibition in Honor of The Cloisters' 75th Anniversary
This artwork is currently on display in Gallery 001
Unicorns join wyverns, centaurs, and stags on this striped cloth, typical of the work of weavers in Perugia. Such cloths with characteristic blue bands were used in both homes and churches. Attractive and utilitarian, these "Perugian cloths" so clearly met a wide demand that the industry remained vibrant for several centuries.
Mrs. Edward S. Harkness (until 1917; to MMA)
