An obelisk, as seen on the left, is a tall, needle-shaped monument made of carved stone and erected by ancient Egyptians to honor their leaders. On the right is an outline of a cypress tree (which is shown much larger than they grow in reality).

When you visit the Metropolitan Museum, look for an obelisk behind the Museum building in Central Park.
