Detail of Princesse Albert de Broglie, née Joséphine-Eléonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassac de Béarn
Ingres experimented with various poses for the princess. Early drawings show her with folded arms, one hand disappearing into the folds of a sleeve. Others show her with her hand by her neck, fingering her collar. Ingres added her jewels after settling on the final pose. One of the princess's bracelets is actually a necklace—a triple strand of pearls—wrapped twice around her wrist.
