Detail of François-Marius Granet The thirty-four-year-old Granet posed for his portrait on the roof of Ingres's studio at the Villa Medici. Granet was fascinated by the sites of Rome and made so many drawings of the city's ruins that it was said he contained all of Rome in his portfolio.
