Detail of Jacques Marquet, Baron de Montbreton de Norvins
This bronze bust of Minerva was copied from a marble version in the Vatican. The letters "ROM," inscribed on the marble pedestal supporting it, presumably stand for "Rome" or "Roma." The bust is thinly painted and was certainly added at the same time Ingres painted in the drapery at the left of the picture.
