Activities for KidsThe function of the art discussed in the this online exploration is to communicate Yoruba beliefs and values. This knowledge is also passed along orally through the retelling of myths and personal histories.
In keeping with the emphasis in Yoruba society on the oral tradition, we have included two narratives. The first is a retelling of The Yoruba Creation Story, an ancient myth which explains how the earth and the people who inhabit it came to be. The other is a transcription of an interview with a Yoruba artist.
