Although Abakanowicz has created bird forms before, the current flock (1998-99) is larger in scale, demonstrating even greater potential for soaring the skies and existing in between the natural and the mechanistic, the realistic and the abstract. They display even more individuality within a series, each one navigating the skies in its own way. One resembles an advanced aircraft; another has the wingspan of a majestic bird such as the condor; and the third seems to hover in space like a hummingbird.
