Detail of Lady at the Tea Table
With minor exceptions, Cassatt restricted her palette in this portrait to blue, white, and yellow. The bold design, which is the distinguishing feature of the work, is reinforced by color: the blue in the tea set matches Mrs. Riddle's eyes.
