The Cathedrals of Fifth Avenue is an ironic commentary on the flamboyance of New Yorkers' consumerist attitudes. Fifth Avenue, with its grand edifices of commerce, is transformed into a stage for a wedding. This event provides an occasion for the artist as a keen observer of human nature to describe the difficulty of upholding one's personal values against the overwhelming tide of commercialism. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
