gammatia: ornaments in the shape of the Greek
letter gamma, symbolically representing the number three for
the Holy Trinity.

board as a primer before for painting is executed.
Grand Župan (Serbo-Croatian, "Grand Count"):
The title held by the ruler of various independent Serbian states,
including those of Duklja and Raška/Serbia until Stefan Prvovenčani
assumes a royal title in 1217. The term Zupan or zupanos was
also a term also used for a high-ranking Wallachian official.
Great Entrance (Gr., "hē megalē eisodos"):
the ceremonial procession that opens the Liturgy of the Faithful,
in which the prepared Eucharistic elements are brought from
the prothesis chapel, through the church and into the altar
area. This gives ritual form to the custom of the congregation
donating the elements to be used in the liturgy. Originally
these elements were carried into the church from the skeuphalakion,
often a separate structure. With the centralization of the church
ground plan during the middle Byzantine period, this processional
transference was maintained, however, in a truncated form. The
depiction of the Great Entrance gains prominence in parietal
decoration during the Palaiologan Period, for example at the
church of the Peribleptos at Mystra, and also appears on smaller
objects, such as the Pulcheria Paten from Xeropotamou Monastery
on Mount Athos, both of which date from the fourteenth century.
