naos (Gr., "temple"): central portion of the Byzantine church lying between the bema and the narthex; the nave of the building.

Naskhi script: ordinary cursive Arabic script.

narthex (Gr., "stalk"): the first section of a church which one encounters when entering an Orthodox Church, before reaching the nave.

niello (It., Fr., Lat., Nigellus "black"): technique for decorating gold and more rarely silver objects with a black inlay.
