Among church textiles, we find vestments worn by the clergy
represented in large numbers. These include the priestly stole,
hung around the neck, known as the epitrachelion; honorific
silk panels hung from the clerical girdle, or the epigonation;
and the sakkos, the tunic worn by patriarchs and bishops,
displaying iconographic programs as complex as any found in
contemporary monumental decorative programs.
