The landscape in the background is painted in a style similar to that of François-Marius Granet. Again, there has been some question as to whether it may have been painted by Granet rather than Ingres. While Ingres may have borrowed a sketch from his friend Granet's album to serve as a model, there is no reason why Ingres himself would not have painted the landscape.
