Pyre in Flames

This pyre evokes a strong connection to one of Kiefer's favorite subjects, Richard Wagner, who retold the tale of Brünnhilde's death on Siegfried's funeral pyre. The pyre also seems to burn for the Germans whose portraits appear above it.
