Frame
| Kiefer underscored the reproductive nature of the woodcut medium by repeating imprints from the same grainy uncarved boards for the "frame." Here, in the kind of visual punning that is common in his work, Kiefer used real wood to represent a wood frame, to stress the medium of woodcut, and to evoke the history of Northern Expressionist art. |
