The man pictured here is Michael Werner, the Cologne art dealer who showed works by Kiefer and other young German artists in the 1970s. He is juxtaposed rather absurdly with the head of Carl Maria von Weber.

Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826), the father of German Romantic opera, greatly influenced the composer Richard Wagner.
