In 1922—long before the days of TV—the Metropolitan
Museum produced a short movie called A Visit to the Armor
Galleries. It's a fantasy about a suit of armor that comes
to life, leaves its display in the Museum, and rides a horse
through Central Park.
The people who made A Visit to the Armor Galleries
way back when used it to teach us what it was like to wear a
suit of steel. Today, more than eighty years later, we still
think it’s a great way to demonstrate armor in action. When
you visit New York, you won't actually see knights riding around
in Central Park, but you can easily imagine the world of knights,
castles, and tournaments by coming to the Met to experience
the pageantry of the Arms and Armor collection. Right now, you
can see 15th-century armor in an early 20th-century movie sent
to you in the 21st century via the World Wide Web.
