MASTER PLAN

The Asian art master plan, which has evolved since 1970, includes the establishment of the Douglas Dillon Galleries for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy and The Astor Court in 1981; The Sackler Wing Galleries for the Arts of Japan in 1987; the Charlotte C. Weber Galleries for Ancient Chinese Art in 1988; the Florence and Herbert Irving Galleries for the Arts of South and Southeast Asia in 1994; and the New Chinese Galleries in 1997, which are composed of the completely renovated and expanded Douglas Dillon Galleries, the Frances Young Tang Gallery for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the C. C. Wang Family Gallery for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, and the Florence and Herbert Irving Galleries for Chinese Decorative Arts.
