Fragmentary Face of King Khafre. Fourth Dynasty, reign of Khafre (ca. 2520-2494 B.C.E.). Egyptian alabaster; H. 3 3/8 in. (8.5 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Purchase, Edward S. Harkness Gift, 1926 (26.7.1392).

Characteristic features and the site of its discovery identify this fragment as a portrait of Khafre. The surface and warmth of the stone and the sensitive indication of fine muscles around the mouth are remarkable. Traces of the royal beard are visible.
