Head of an Older Man. Mid-Fourth to early Fifth Dynasty (ca. 25002450 B.C.E.). Painted limestone; H. 4 in. (10.2 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Dodge Fund, 1947 (47.105.1).

This small head was probably part of a standing statue with a back pillar. Narrow eyes, the remains of a jutting nose, a seamed face, and broad flat lips make this one of a restricted number of realistic depictions of aged officials from the Old Kingdom.
