After the sculptures arrived on trucks, they were lifted onto the roof by a giant crane. Then Museum staff members called riggers used "rigs," or small cranes, to put the parts of the sculptures together. They do this under the close supervision of a curator (the Museum staff person who studies and cares for the art, and who plans exhibitions), designers, and in this case the artists, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
