Of the surviving drawings of individual components for church furnishings,
this one for a marble pulpit is one of the most highly finished. The pulpit
was to be fabricated in brilliant white and contrasting green-figured marble,
framed by mosaic detailing. In an unusual instance, the draftsman simulated the
texture of highly polished marble by applying a coating of gum arabic to the green
areas, giving a sheen to the normally soft, matte paper surface.
