Kretschmann, an Austrian by birth and a skilled glasscutter and engraver whom Tiffany hired in the early years of his work in blown-glass vases, probably executed the delicate decoration on this vase. An extraordinarily fluid conception, the lily pads and Queen Anne's lace—two of Tiffany's favorite motifs—float delicately on the surface. The glasscutter has rendered the blossoms from many angles and in different stages of maturity.
