Beyond Face Value: The Portrait from Napoleon to Jackie, Part 2

The cult of celebrity furnished artists with material long before Andy Warhol proclaimed that we would all have our fifteen minutes of fame. Celebrity portraitists—from Sir Joshua Reynolds and Jacques Louis David in the eighteenth century, to the Belle Époque painter John Singer Sargent and modern artists such as the photographer Richard Avedon and Warhol himself—will be featured in this talk.
