Houghton Revisited: The Walpole Masterpieces from Catherine the Great's Hermitage

Learn more about the art collection of Britain's first prime minister Sir Robert Walpole, which was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in 1779. This collection includes paintings by Van Dyck, Poussin, Rubens, and Rembrandt, and was one of the most famous in eighteenth-century Europe. Find out about the Walpole Collection's impending journey from the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia—where it has been located for more than two hundred years—back to Houghton Hall, the Walpole ancestral home in Norfolk, England.

Lecture by Thierry Morel, Exhibition Curator and Member of the Advisory Board, Hermitage Museum Foundation (USA), Inc.
