The Metropolitan Museum of Art Announces Return of Complimentary Summer Bicycle Valet Program

Guests to the Museum will be able to explore The Met’s many initiatives celebrating the summer season, including the continuation of its popular Date Night evenings, reopening of the Cantor Roof Garden bar, and extended viewing hours of the blockbuster Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty exhibition.

(New York, June 2, 2023)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today advanced details about the return of its bicycle valet program, a complimentary service providing guests convenient storage of their bikes during their visit to the Museum’s Fifth Avenue location this summer. The service will be available every Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day weekend (starting May 27) through Labor Day (September 4), including select Mondays and Tuesdays (May 29, July 3, July 4, and September 4). For more information on valet hours, visit our website, here

“A bike ride is fun and so is a trip to the Met, but biking to The Met—that’s a great New York City experience,” said Ken Weine, Senior Vice President for External Affairs. “We are elated to once again be able to offer this service in partnership with Transportation Alternatives.”

Throughout the summer, The Museum will continue its successful Date Night at The Met program—with two-for-one drink specials and music on Friday and Saturday evenings—and welcome visitors to the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden and Roof Garden Bar which hosts the acclaimed Roof Garden Commission: Lauren Halsey (through October 22). Access to the Roof Garden is free with admission to the Museum and is subject to first-come, first-served availability (weather permitting).

Additional exhibitions on view this summer, include the blockbuster Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty (through July 16), which features extended evening viewing hours every Sunday until 9 pm, and Van Gogh’s Cypresses (through August 27). Guests viewing these exhibitions must join a virtual exhibition queue via QR code once inside the Museum, no advance or timed tickets required. Access is first come, first served and subject to capacity limitations. For more information about current and upcoming exhibitions, visit our website listings, here.

The bike valet service, provided by Transportation Alternatives (TA), will be available free of charge. Visitors arriving by bicycle who wish to check their bikes will be greeted by TA staff at a dedicated tent on The Met’s Fifth Avenue plaza near 83rd Street.
