The Metropolitan Museum of Art Elects Janice Y. K. Lee as Elective Trustee

(New York, May 10, 2024)—The Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that it has elected Janice Y. K. Lee as an Elective Trustee. The election took place at the May 9, 2024 meeting of the Board and was announced by Candace K. Beinecke and Hamilton (“Tony”) E. James, Co-Chairs of the Museum’s Board of Trustees. 

“We are pleased to welcome Janice to our Board as an Elective Trustee,” said Board Co-Chairs Beinecke and James. “Janice is a distinguished author with great passion for the arts and The Met, and we look forward to working with her on advancing the Museum’s mission.” 

Janice Y. K. Lee 

Ms. Lee is the author of The New York Times bestselling novels, The Piano Teacher and The Expatriates, both of which were published to critical acclaim from The New York Times, People, and The New Yorker, among others. The Expatriates was made into the television series EXPATS, starring Nicole Kidman at Amazon Studios. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Travel & Leisure, as well as numerous other publications. She graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English and American Literature and Language and worked as an editor at ELLE and Mirabella magazines upon graduation. 

The recipient of several residencies at Yaddo, the artist colony in Saratoga Springs, Ms. Lee now serves as co-chair of the board. She is deeply involved at Harvard University, where she is a member of the Global Advisory Council, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Council, and the FAS Committee on Financial Aid. She also served on the board of her alma mater, St. Paul's School, in Concord, New Hampshire, for nine years. At The Met, Ms. Lee and her husband, Joseph Bae, are members of the Chairman's Council.
