Peaceful Conquerors: Jain Manuscript Painting

The art of the book in medieval India is closely associated with the Jain religious community, whose members considered the commissioning of such works to be a meritorious activity. This exhibition includes illustrated palm-leaf manuscripts as well as larger works on paper, bronze Jain sculptures, and a ceremonial painted textile.

Eccentric Visions: The Worlds of Luo Ping (1733–1799)

Luo Ping was a fiercely independent artist whose works, including portraits, landscapes, and flower paintings, deeply influenced the course of later Chinese painting. The exhibition includes many paintings from leading Chinese museums that never have been shown in the West.
