This tender depiction of Katherine Kelso Cassatt (1816–1895), then 73, is the last of four that her daughter completed. Mrs. Cassatt's carefully modeled face and hands contrast with the sketchy, colorful brushstrokes in her shawl and with the rapidly sketched details of her elegant Paris apartment.
