Enlarge Statuette of Isis
MMA Burton photo TAA968

This statuette of the goddess Isis depicts her wearing a delicately pleated, closely fitting dress, and a shawl draped over her shoulders. Her symbol, the throne, sits atop her head, and her arms are outstretched. Her head is turned slightly to one side, which breaks one of the basic rules of ancient Egyptian art: that statues in the round always must face front.
