MMA Burton photo TAA9

Three gilded and inlaid ritual couches, as well as other items of furniture and boxes, were arranged along the west wall of the Antechamber. See a plan of the tomb. These massive animal-headed couches were the first objects seen by Carter as he peered through the small hole that he made in the blocked doorway. Under the middle couch, which represents the cow goddess Mehetweret, were 48 whitewashed, wood boxes containing joints of meat.
