Reopening of the Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries for Byzantine Art and the Medieval Europe Gallery
Opened November 18, 2008 Medieval Art galleries, first floor
Portions of the newly renovated and reinstalled Medieval Galleries are now open to the public. The former apse beneath the Great Hall Stairs is now part of the Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries for Byzantine Art and features the Museum’s newly acquired manuscript: the Jaharis Lectionary, a rare masterpiece of Byzantine art from about the year 1100. The former Tapestry Hall has been transformed into a new gallery of Medieval Europe devoted to works of art in all media from about 1050 to 1300.
