Met Bestseller - 19th Century English Watch

	The first watches—then more like portable clocks—began to appear in the late-15th or early-16th century, after the invention of the spring-driven (rather than weight-driven) time-keeping device. In the second half of the 18th century in Europe, fashions in pocket watches changed dramatically toward a slimmer, less ornamented and more elegant style. Our watch is based on an original pocket watch (English, ca. 1815–30) made of gold with blue-steel hands. Left: Stainless steel case with 18K gold plate. Right: Stainless steel case.
