The firm these men established in Boston (1808–11) and relocated to Philadelphia (1811–42) elevated the significance of silver in America as a medium of public appreciation, thus introducing a new era in silver production. Some 100 works from the firm, many of which come from private collections, are published for the first time in this lavishly illustrated volume. A number of associated paintings and prints, in addition to little-known Fletcher & Gardiner working drawings from the collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, help broaden the scope of the presentation and set the works in context.
